Curriculum

Context: Classroom guides with leveled essays, videos, and lesson plans

Audience: Middle and high school students from across the nation

Purpose: Collaborate with teachers to make the collections and exhibitions at The National WWII Museum accessible to students in the classroom

About the Project

In response to teacher feedback and needs, I directed the creation of new curricular resources at The National WWII Museum. These resources included a classroom guide to accompany the Museum’s electronic field trip on the Holocaust and one for the Museum’s special exhibition Our War Too: Women in Service. These curricular resources include activities rooted in object-based inquiry using numerous artifacts from the Museum’s collections and content essays differentiated across grade levels. As the manager for these projects, I guided lesson authors, oversaw the review process, produced accompanying online and video content, and managed the print and digital publication process. By leading the development of new curricula, I gained a deep knowledge of social studies curriculum and instruction, evolving teacher and student needs, and the important role of museums in meeting these needs.
